2006 Internet Revenues Likely to Hit $16.8 Billion!

Internet advertising revenues for 2006 are likely to come in at $16.8 billion, according to new research from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). This figure would represent an increase of more than a third (34 per cent) over the $12.5 billion taken in 2005, demonstrating the sharp growth of online advertising.
Revenues for the fourth quarter of 2006 totalled just under $4.8 billion, an increase of 32 per cent over the same period the year before.
"The continued growth of interactive advertising is clearly based on marketers' recognition that they connect with consumers most effectively through interactive media," noted IAB chief executive and president Randall Rothenberg.
"The increase underscores marketers' understanding that interactive advertising can engage consumers, build brands and sell products and services."
PwC partner David Silverman noted that the trend points to "a steady increase in the level of spend by traditional advertisers that are using online advertising as an important part of their media mix".
The news comes soon after it was revealed that Google UK's ad revenue rose above £825 million in 2006, putting it in second position in Britain's ad market after ITV.
